Acting as a gateway to New York's Catskill Mountain, Emerson Place stands as a vibrant vacation destination designed to take full advantage of the Hudson Valley's pastoral surroundings. Located two hours, and a million miles, from Manhattan, Emerson Place provides an ideal escape that allows you to enjoy more time here, and less time getting here.
In the 1800's the campus now known at Emerson Place was operated as a dairy farm by the Risely family. At the center of the farm, and now the most visible symbol of Emerson Place, stood the family's barn, complete with a grain silo that rose up from the horizon as visitors traveled the nearby road.
Years have passed and thing have changed for the farm, but a road still passes by (NYS Route 28) and the barn has undergone a metamorphosis that we're pretty sure the Risely's never would have imagined.
Sometime in the early 1990's, Emerson Place founder Dean Gitter saw the Risely silo and had a vision ...of a kaleidoscope! So, in 1996 his vision became reality when he opened the World's Largest Kaleidoscope, with the barn silo having been magically converted into a dazzling display of colored light and incredible sound. Tens of thousands have enjoyed the show, truly a one-of-kind experience. And that was just the beginning.
Originally known as Catskill Corners, Emerson Place grew from the Kaleidoscope and a few shops into a remarkable resort destination that now features mountain luxury lodging, locally inspired cuisine, a world-class spa, a multitude of shops and an ideal setting for weddings, special events and corporate retreats. And we're not done.
In July 2005, we will open The Emerson at Woodstock, a remarkable restaurant featuring cuisine created by nationally renowned chef Michel Nischan. The double themed restaurant will offer intimate fine dining on one side and a more casual bistro on the other.
Both sides will celebrate the bounty the area offers in the way of fresh, seasonal ingredients, all set in an 1800's-era Woodstock farmhouse originally owned by...The Risely family.
